Following on from 3 simple ways to Backup your Data I thought it would be useful to review some other backup products that could be used. The first product is Titan Backup.
Titan Backup has been featured this year in PC World and PC PRO magazines as well as others around the world.
This is the first time I have looked at Titan Backup. My first impressions of the product are positive.
The features of Titan Backup include:
-
Wizard driven tasks
-
Backup to almost any storage device type
-
Sync Tasks
-
Free plugins to support your favorite applications
-
Version Control
-
Encryption
-
Good schedule engine
Plus many more. Read the full list of features here.
The package downloads and installs without any issue on my Windows XP test machine. The user interface is clean and clearly shows the user the available tasks.
Backup

I ran through the backup wizard first. Like all backup programs you have the option to select files, registry and profile related items. I selected some files and some settings from my profile. What I liked about the profile section was the nice touch of allowing you to select application specific items that it had detected.
For instance, I could backup my Windows Media player related files. This is becoming more important for users of itunes and other DRM restricted material.
Select your backup options. The normal increment and differential options were there. You could encrypt using AES as well. Alternatively you could use Zip compression and create a self extracting archive.
The destination choices are flexible, with options to backup to disk, network share, removable device, CD/DVD and remote FTP server. It covers all possible bases.
The final stage, the scheduling component, is also just as flexible. The whole process was done in a few seconds. If you want you can also have a shortcut placed on the desktop that allows you to initiate the task at any time.
Restore
Quick and easy. No surprises here.
Sync Task
I quite liked the sync feature. It gives you the ability to sync folders, which is quite handy. Like the backup task you can select multiple destination types and schedule the sync.
This feature could really suit the small business and home user.

Overall
Titan Backup is a refreshing take on the backup software suite. It has lots of standard features and some nice extra features. It is simple and in my view will meet all home and small business needs.
Titan Backup normally retails for $40 USD for a single license and a reducing scale for multiple licenses. For a limited time you can get 30% off with this discount coupon: NEOB-T3D0.
