Another week has passed and we are now on the count down to Christmas. The days are really flying by.
The world economies are continuing to take a battering and Technology startups are starting to feel the credit pinch. Only time will tell whether the markets and economic confidence will bounce back any time soon.
Each week there are news and informative items that aren’t substantial enough for their own posts. Starting from this week I will post summary articles for the weeks events in:
-
Cloud
-
Citrix
-
Virtualization
-
Entertainment
-
Home
In addition to this, any interesting or odd news items in Technology.
This week I will continue to look at deploying streamed applications with Citrix XenApp 5.0, using VMware Workstation as your desktop virtualization software, and have a closer look at server virtualization.
Interesting Bits
Virtual Crime
Not so much an interesting item, more of a unusual legal ruling happened last week in the Netherlands. A 16 year old boy was charged with the theft of virtual goods from a 13 year old boy. The older boy forced the younger one, after a fight, to log into Runescape and hand over money and virtual goods.
This might be a strange ruling, but is it a bad one? Online games have huge followings and real money changes hands every day to buy virtual equipment, even though it is against the EULA. Is there much difference between stealing a virtual item from a game and stealing a virtual server? This is an area of Law that needs to be considered, and more importantly businesses and individuals alike need to be aware of the Laws where their data is being hosted.
