XenServer 5.0 has not been released for that long, but already a minor update has occurred. XenServer 5.5 is out now.

While largely I think XenServer 5.5.0 is a release to address some general bugs it also adds improved support.

The features added as part of the update are:

• Improved Backup and snapshot support
• Active Directory Integration
• Workload balancing
• Improved operating system support
• XenCentre improvements

I think the first point is probably the most needed in the XenServer suite. I have recently started using XenServer in parallel with VMWare Esx and the only think I would like in XenServer that is not already there is the ability to snapshot a virtual machine so I can roll back to a known state.

Otherwise, I am very happy with the general use of XenServer. Well I’ll be putting upgrade to XenServer 5.5 on my to do list and I will let you know how it goes in the end.
