A few months ago I read that Google was going to create an Android based operating system for netbooks. Now it seems that Google has thought about this some more and decided to develop a new Linux based operating system.

The new operating system will build upon the Chrome browser foundation to become a fully fledged operating system. What a great idea. I perhaps would have liked a completely new operating system though.

Netbooks and low end devices are a perfect perfect market for Google. Netbooks and the new generation of mini laptops are well suited to this style development.

This move by Google will not challenge Microsoft’s traditional computer operating system market share, but will certainly change the ever increasing mobility market.

If this one comes off for Google then maybe in a few years time we will see a new desktop operating system.
