Google has announced the latest innovation for its search product called Google Sidewiki. The general concept is to allow web surfers to value add to a website by providing their opinions and comments about its usefulness and its content.

This follows along a similar line of Microsoft BING which is adding more levels of information that may or may not help the browser to find what they want.

The Google Sidewiki concept is simple enough and although, like most things few people will use it initially, however in time it may be a way of eliminating the millions of useless sites with duplicated content. I also wonder what the long term value of the positive comments will have in search marketing?

It is only available for Internet Explorer and Firefox at the moment. I really wish Google would put more effort into Chrome support for new products, not simply leave it as an after thought.

Read the Google blog about it here.

Only time will tell if it can add value to the user search experience.
