VMWare’s vCloud Beta

Cloud Computing is still getting a lot of press these days. Some of it is negative, but most is positive.

I haven’t really been following all the developments in this area as they do not have a direct effect to my workplace. But things are starting to get interesting as the various Cloud provides are starting to introduce services based on the proven technologies such as VMWare and XenServer.

VMWare’s vCloud beta looks interesting and provides a good option for launching cloud based services. VirtualizationAdmin.com has put this together this interesting demo about the VMWare vCloud product and what it does right now.



It looks quite interesting to me.

Would I throw all my servers in the Cloud? No way, but there has certainly been improvements to what is being offered.

MokaFive Version 2 Released

MokaFive has released version 2 of their MokaFive suite. MokaFive was designed as a Desktop-as-a-Service (DAAS) platform for small to medium enterprises. Offering a tailored option in the hosted MokaFive Service so they don’t have to deal with deploying a server, maintenance and upgrades. This is a great option for small businesses who simply do not have the time or technical resources to manage their IT environments.

The MokaFive suite goes that step further now offering a scalable and fully managed product for large enterprises. Not only providing fully contained virtual machines called LivePC’s but also the ability to deliver applications to these Live PC’s. These virtual machines are cached and run locally.

Cloud Security questioned in open letter to Google

The security, or lack thereof, of cloud computing has been debated since the term was coined and like all things in Information Technology everyone expects the security to be improved as the general community start to uptake these services.

It seems that a group of 38 researchers and academics have had enough waiting and created an open letter to Google CEO Eric Schmidt.

Weekly Update - 22 March 2009

The weeks are really getting away from me at the moment. I am finding myself very busy with other things in my life. I though I would just touch base with you.

For those of you that liked the new Battlestar Galactica series, what a ending. It was a great series, the best Sci Fi story. What will I have to watch now?
