Publishing Explorer for users in XenApp 5 on Windows 2008

Currently I am building a new XenApp 5.0 farm that requires both Windows 2003 and Windows 2008 servers. As a part of this process I am publishing applications and testing them as I go.

The old Presentation Server 4 environment is obviously all Windows Server 2003.

Publishing Explorer for users is not a new issue for Citrix server environments. The correct way to do this is to not publish explorer.exe at all but instead publish Internet Explorer in explorer mode.

More Windows Deployment Services Information

Since my last post about the Windows Deployment Service (wds) I have been using it a little. Partly because the legacy images would no longer update the precompiled INF files and partly because I thought I should move the images I use to the current version.

When I first configured the server I was a little confused on how to get the images to install in an unattended mode. I was still needing to install Windows Server 2003 images and everything I had read said that you cannot use unattended mode with XP or 2003.

Migrating from VMware to XenServer

Updating to the free XenServer license

In an earlier post I mentioned that Citix were going to be releasing XenServer for free. The official release of this has now occured. Update 3, which was released from Citrix changes the licensing engine slightly allowing for the new free license to be applied. There is also an updated version for the XenCentre client.

You will need to applied these updates so that you can activate the new 12 month XenServer license.
